Long Time Member & Passed Collingdale Fire Chief Passes away

The Members & Officers of the DVFCA would like to offer their most sincere condolences thoughts and prayers to the family of Chief James P. Reardon.

James P. Reardon Jr., 65,
Formerly of Collingdale; St. James High grad

James P. Reardon Jr., 65, of Millville, Del., and formerly of Collingdale, a retired Sun Oil Co. supervisor, died suddenly Feb. 10 at Atlantic General Hospital in Maryland.

Mr. Reardon was born in Philadelphia and had been a longtime resident of Collingdale before moving to Millville in 2003.

He was a 1962 graduate of St. James High School and worked for Sun Oil Co., retiring as a supervisor.

Mr. Reardon was dedicated to Collingdale Fire Co. No. 1, where for more than 42 years he served as a lifetime member. He was also a past president and chief and served in numerous other positions.

More recently, he was a member of Millville Volunteer Fire Company, where he served in the fire police.

Mr. Reardon was past president of the Keystone State Fire Chiefs Association and a longtime board member of the Collingdale Fireman’s Relief Association, where he was treasurer for more than 20 years.

He was also a member of the Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Association, Fireman Association of Pennsylvania and Delaware County Firemen’s Association,

Mr. Reardon was a member of the Ancient Hibernians and the Delmarva Association, both in Maryland, and served on the board of the Banks Harbor Retreat Marina in Delaware.

He was a member of St. Anne Church in Bethany Beach, Del., and a former member of St. Joseph Church in Collingdale.

Mr. Reardon was the son of the late James and Anna Reardon.

Survivors: Wife, Kathy Cohan Reardon; sons, James Reardon of Springfield, Jake Reardon of Merion Station; daughter, Missy DiGiacomo of Glenolden; brothers, Tony Reardon of Texas, Bill Reardon of Glenolden; sister, Tina Scott of Brookhaven; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Service: Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. George Church, 11 E. Lamont Ave., Glenolden.

Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, McCausland-Garrity Funeral Home, 202 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden.

Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.
